When we think of the top hiking and camping destinations in Mexico, many overlook a strategic gem: Cuernavaca . The city of eternal spring can be your central point to get your favorite products at O&A and explore some of the most attractive hiking trails in the south-central region of Mexico:
Located just 40 minutes from Cuernavaca, this national park is perfect for a day trip. Here you can hike through pine and fir forests, explore trails alongside its crystal-clear lagoons, and camp under a sky full of stars. It's an excellent option for those looking for an easy to moderate hike, ideal for families and groups of friends.
Less than 30 kilometers from Cuernavaca, Tepoztlán is one of Mexico's most visited Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns). Tepoztlán also offers camping and glamping options for an overnight stay, allowing you to soak up its bohemian atmosphere.

Although located south of Mexico City, Ajusco is only an hour and a half from the new 5.11 O&A. This iconic park offers hiking trails that take you to its summit, at over 3,900 meters above sea level. If you're looking for a more challenging experience, Ajusco is perfect for altitude training, enjoying panoramic views, and breathing fresh air.
If you're willing to drive two and a half hours , you can reach Paso de Cortés from Cuernavaca, the access point to Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park. Here you'll find iconic routes like the hike to La Joya and the Iztaccíhuatl refuges. It's a high-altitude hike that requires some physical fitness, but it's well worth it for the volcanic landscapes and unforgettable views.
Less well-known but very close to Cuernavaca (20 minutes), this park offers hiking trails ideal for those seeking tranquility and peace and quiet. Its wooded area, rock formations, and camping areas are perfect for a quick weekend getaway.

It's a challenging hike, considered by many to be a point-to-point route of approximately 24.3 km, with an average completion time of 7 hours and 36 minutes. It's recommended for trekking and hiking, and you won't usually encounter many people on the trail, especially if you hike it during the week. The route crosses wooded areas and volcanic terrain, connecting the edge of the Milpa Alta ring road with the Chapel of San Juan Bautista in San Juan Tlacotenco.
